Artificial

This is our submission to Kult Magazine's "artificial" issue released in November.

Kult Magazine is a Singaporean street press magazine, the first of it's kind in a city/country where art and graphic design culture has never really existed, so we were honored when they invited us to submit our interpretation of "Artificial"

But having recently wondered through the Arab quarters of Singapore, it would seem they are set for a bit of a cultural explosion.

I captured this at Melbourne's Footscray station last night (12/5/09)... due to a V-line petrol leak everyone had to disembark at Footscray station.

As you can see the station didn't cope very well and it was a bit of a squeeze.

A Total Lack of Symmetry

As I saw a girl saunter across Napier Street in a very familiar singlet top the other day, I was reminded of a bit of a project I did for our friends at Lola & Evie. Last Summer's range had taken inspiration from the Puberty Blues era - high waisted and Aussie summer spirited. I was asked to create some yardages and prints for the range, mixing up Australian flora, vintage Australian surf graphics, and geometric shapes. Here are some of the results from 'A Total Lack of Symmetry'.

Japaniceness

You know when you've just come back from holidays and you suffer a bout of post-holiday depression?
Well, since returning from Japan early this year going to the toilet has become such a dispirited task. Just have a look at all those buttons.

Ahh, at least I still have the memories.

The Japanese have some beautiful traditions. One of my favourites is their celebration of the cemetery. I found this one in Hakuba. The ski resort of Happo One is in the background - scene of the 1998 Winter Olympics.

Another less glamorous, but equally engaging one is Sumo. I went to a tournament while in Tokyo and witnessed Japan's 'sweet science'.

This was taken way back in 2000 on the island of Ios in Greece. Georgio's Gyro's (pronounced Yiorgos Yiros) were the best so I had to take a shot of him and his meat.

We do a bit of work with The Essential Ingredient Melbounr, and I was lucky enough attend the Cooking School Class to take some happy snaps of the Stokehouse's genius chef Anthony Musarra in action.
