Amalia – Reinterpreting the Viennese coffeehouse.

Café Amalia pays homage to owner Christian Janko’s late mother, Amalia, and the family’s Austrian heritage. Christian sought to reference the classic coffeehouses of Vienna in a contemporary way at his new café.

We worked closely with interior designer Larritt-Evans to create a seamless solution that marries a blackletter-style logotype and gilded signage with dark leather banquettes, marble tables and classic bentwood chairs.

Our identity design work for Amalia garnered a 2012 AGDA Award and the Australian Design Biennale 2012 Professional Award.

“It is very rare that a customer doesn’t comment on our identity as being both beautiful and having a sense of permanence, like it has always been there”
